Magic node

A magic node is a step you write in plain language instead of building it from nodes by hand. You type what the step should do (“log hello”, “send the customer a Telegram message”) and the AI agent builds the real nodes under it. On the canvas the magic node shows only your text and a small status icon; the nodes it generated are kept inside it and are opened in a popup.

A magic node is inserted with a left click on a valence point (the small dots between icons). It needs the AI agent to be configured once by an administrator — see AI agent in Administration.

  • The Magic insert toggle in the editor toolbar switches this behaviour. With it on, a left click inserts a magic node; with it off (or while the agent is not configured), a left click inserts an ordinary action, as before. When on, the button is filled and highlighted. The toggle is remembered in your browser.

  • The new node opens for typing at once. Type the step and press Enter (Shift+Enter adds a new line) — the agent starts building the steps.

  • Press Escape, or press Enter on an empty text, and the fresh node turns into a plain action instead.

The block shows your text and, when relevant, a status icon: the steps are being generated, the assistant is asking a question, generation failed, or the steps were modified by hand. Hover the icon to read the status; a short note left by the agent (for example, which values are placeholders for you to fill in) appears in the tooltip too.

Double-click a magic node (or choose Edit steps… in its context menu) to open a popup. Its top block holds the node’s text; below it, the generated steps sit between Start and End. It is an ordinary scheme: you can add, move, edit and delete nodes in it.

  • OK saves your changes into the node; Cancel (or the × button) closes the popup and discards them. Escape does not close the popup — inside it, Escape only finishes editing a block, so unsaved edits are never lost by accident.

  • While the agent is generating, the popup is read-only. A Cancel generation button stops the run.

  • If the agent needs to ask something — for example, which integration to use — the question appears at the top of the popup with answer options, the same way as in the chat.

  • If generation fails, the error is shown in the popup with a Retry button.

To change the text of an existing magic node, open its steps popup and edit the top block (on the canvas a double-click opens the popup rather than the text). When the text changes and the node already has steps, the editor asks whether to Update with AI or Keep as is. Updating replaces the steps with a new version that follows the new text; keeping only stores the new text. If the node has no steps yet, generation simply starts.

If you change anything inside a magic node by hand, the node is marked modified by hand, so you know the steps no longer match what the agent generated. A regenerated or updated node loses this mark. The mark and the edit are a single undo step.

  • Edit steps… — open the steps popup.
  • Regenerate — build the steps again from the current text (asks for confirmation).
  • Unwrap — replace the magic node with its steps, placed directly in the scheme at the same spot, and remove the text. Afterwards they are ordinary nodes. (Not available for a magic node that carries an exit such as return.)

A magic node adds nothing of its own at runtime: a workflow compiles exactly as if its steps had been placed by hand, and the text is only a description. Debugging and live run highlighting work on the steps inside it.

Every generation, update and answer to a question is a run of the AI agent and is counted in the agent’s usage like a chat request. The magic node does not use the chat session — each node has its own short run.
